Gail's PhD Quilting Challenge

So I am more than ready to take part in Quilting Gail's 2022 PhD.  I hope to do better with monthly reporting.  And I think I will make better progress since I have several tops waiting to be quilted.  Here is a link of my PhD's and a few kits that I haven't started.  I have listed my top 14 PhD's that I will concentrate on.

I not only finished the applique on Vintage but also managed to assemble the top.  Now to get it ready for quilting.

OMG December

I have been working steadily over the past few months on on my Vintage Rouge quilt top.  This month I want to complete applying the berries to the four borders.  There are 56 of them and I know I can do it.  I want to thank Patty from Elm Street Quilts for hosting this monthly challenge.  I feel as though I made real progress on my UFO.

Stash Report for November

Knitting has been on the back burner since I started Suzanne Bryan's Bootcamp.  It hasn't left much time for personal knitting.  But this month I managed to complete a hat and a little mask mate for a total of 150 yards.

I have been working steadily on my Vintage Rouge Quilt top.  This month I wanted to applique the leaves on the borders and I am happy to report they are DONE.  I am going to link up with Elm Street Quilts.

One Monthly Goal for November

In order to complete the borders, I need to applique four centers for the poinsettia, 24 leaves and 56 berries.  My goal for November is to do the flower centers and leaves.  Wish me luck.

OMG October Finish

I am making steady progress on Vintage Rouge.  I completed stitching the bias stems and center poinsettias.  I just may reach my goal and have the top completed before 2022.

Weekly Progress

The past few weeks have been a little of this and a little of that.  I was cleaning up and organizing my sewing room.  And realized I have so much fabric that will never be part of a quilt.  I remembered that a nearby church has a mission group that makes dresses and shorts for Haiti as well as blankets and pillowcases.  So far I have made 4 dresses and 3 pairs of shorts.

I will be using my personal stash for the dresses but the shorts are kits which are cut and ready to sew.

I finished another hat, Pimm's Cup Hat for a favorite niece.

I haven't posted any numbers in a few weeks.  So these are catch up numbers that reflect my progress this year:

Fabric in  this year:  5 yards

Fabric out this year:  26.5 yards

Yarn in this year:  14665 (clearly not a good cold sheep year)

Yarn out this year:  10059 yards

If I could knit 4606 yards by Dec 31 I would break even!!!

One Monthly Goal October

I will still be working on the same quilt, Vintage Rouge.  This month I will start the applique borders. There a four of them.  My goal is to applique the stems--8 of them and 4 Dresden poinsettias.

End of the Month

I am happy to report that I am making progress on my Vintage Rouge Quilt.  Not only did I complete attaching the Dresden Plates to the background fabric, I figured out how to complete the blocks.  I managed to misplace the directions.  I am very happy with the outcome.  Next month I will begin constructing the borders.

Weekly Report

I finished another hat this week.

Finlandia Hat

This is another hat for the H4S (hats for sailors) project
.

Since most of my quilts are needle turn applique, it takes me forever to finish one.  But I do enjoy the process.

September OMG

Participating in Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal (OMG) has helped get back into my quilting groove.  I am going to continue making progress on my Vintage Rouge Quilt.  This month I want to stitch down the Dresden plates to the background.

Month 2:  4 Blocks

OMG August Finish

I  completed the center medallion of my Vintage Rouge Quilt.  Stay tuned for my September Goal.

Catching Up

Where did the month go??????  For the first time in two years, we had all of our kids, grandkids, spouses and sweeties together.  It was noisy, chaotic and wonderful.  And then I went to Virginia to help out with child care.  I certainly felt my age trying to keep up with a 14 month old, 4 year old and 6 year old.

Needless to say not much knitting or quilting was accomplished.  But I did manage to complete two projects.

The good news is I haven't purchased any yarn since the last time I made a stash report.

Stash Report and Weekly Plan

My last weekly stash report was back in May.  I am not sure where the time went.  But I have been making slow and steady progress on my projects.  So I think I will summarize what I have done for the first seven months.

KNITTING

My knitting obsession this year has been hats.  I have been having so much fun with them that I am hosting a Hat knit along (KAL) via Zoom for my LYS.  Our first hat was Sunflower Dreams Hat.

I still need a photo of the finished project.  Last night I completed the sixth and final hat of the series which will be our project for November.
Caiseal Hat

Now that I have found Hats for Sailors, I know what I can do with them.  So far this year I have knitted 18 hats.  And 10 of those hats I will be able to send out to Hats for Sailors.

Yarn In YTD:  11,083 yards
Yarn Out YTD:  7105 yards

SEWING/QUILTING

I was able to get back to my sewing room a few days this week and managed to finish assembling two quilt tops.  Hopefully I will get one of the tops basted this week so I can start quilting.

This week's plan:
Crochet 7 stripes (21 rows)  on Ripple Afghan.
Baste Euro Swap Quilt Top

OMG August

Now that the petals to the Medallion Block are stitched together, this month I will attach it to the background and add the center circle.

I am going to link up with Elm Street Quilts.

OMG Finish for July

I did it!  I did it!  I really did it!

This was a small goal that took me two months to finish.  The blades are together and ready to be appliqued to the backgroun.

July One Monthly Goal

Since I didn't even pick up my June project, I will roll it over to this month.  I want to finish sewing the petals of the center medallion of Vintage Rouge.  I am going to link up with Elm Street Quilts.

Wednesday, June 2, 2021

OMG June

Although I think of quilting as my first love, knitting goals have been taking over.  This month I am going for a very simple (doable) goal.  I want to finish piecing the blades for a large Dresden plate.  This is for the center of Vintage Rouge.  It has been in my UFO's for more than 10 years.  I hope this is the year!

OMG Finish for May

I have enjoyed Monthly in Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal.  I start out with high hopes every January and then seem to fall off the wagon around May or June.  I always plan to make my goals quilting goals but somehow manage to work on knitting.  But a finish is a finish and that makes me happy.

This month I finished Dockside Cable Scarf.

Sunday Stash Report Week 18

There has been no change in my fabric number--none in and none out.  Maybe soon I will make a little progress.

My yarn stash is another matter!  I made a birthday purchase at my favorite online  yarn destination, Eat Sleep Knit in Dallas Georgia.   Each year I participate in the Yarnathon and enjoy many of the challenges.

And I managed a finish.

Dockside Cable Scarf

My numbers this week:
Fabric--no changes

Yarn in this week:  2340 yards--lots of pretty sock yarn.
Yarn in YTD:  8911 yards

Yarn out this week:  370 yards
Yarn Out YTD: 7195 yards

Stash Report Update

While I have been making progress on my projects, I haven't finished anything in what seems like forever.  My quilt and fabric projects seem to be on hold.   I just don't seem to be able to get into my sewing room.  But I have made a little dent in my yarn that was off set with a yarn purchase. First let me say, I am not much of a crochet person.  I tell my friends I like to pretend to crochet.  When I saw the yarn for Sirdar's Sweet Blossom Blanket, I couldn't resist.  I saw Vivian, my newest granddaughter,  all over it.  I had one finish that only amounted to 950 yards.  This was the Temperance Shawl KAL.  It felt like a thousand yards more!

Yarn in this week:  3672 yards for Sweet Blossom Blanket

Yarn out this week:  950 yards for Temperance Shawl

Yarn in YTD:  6571 yards

Yarn out YTD:  5395 yards

More out than in this year--so far.  But I ALWAYS treat myself to a birthday yarn purchase.  And since my birthday is this week, next week's report won't be as positive.

One Monthly Goal for May

This is the first time this year that I didn't finish my one monthly goal.  I ended up finishing my Temperance Shawl instead.  But this month I AM GOING TO FINISH my Dockside Cable Scarf.

Dockside Cable Scarf

Merry Month of May

Usually I map out a little plan each month for things I would like to at least work on.  I completely forgot to post a Monthly Plan for April.  This list is really ambitious and I know I won't complete most of it.  But these are definitely the things that I want to concentrate on the next few months.

    KNITTING/CROCHET

    QUILTING
    • 30's String Blocks--need 10 more blocks; assemble top

    • Joy of Life--Baste

    • Vintage Rouge Blocks--Month 1 and 4

    MACHINE EMBROIDERY

    Stash Report Week 14

The best I can say is that I am plodding along on current projects.  I will tell you a little secret--I am not a fan of knitting shawls.  Last week I mentioned that I was hosting a Zoom KAL for my LYS. I love the group of ladies participating and look forward to our get together every Thursday.  I am on the final section.  There are 199 rows in the last section.  And this is a total of 39,999 stitches in that section alone!

But I did manage to make a cute pillowcase.  My stash is now 1.5 yards lighter.

Fabric in this week:  0 yards

Fabric out this week:  1.5 yards

    In YTD:  3 yards

    Out YTD:  19.75 yards

    On My Needles

Prior to the pandemic, I would visit my friends at Craftworks.   I had the pleasure of teaching, hosting KAL's and drop in on Tuesday morning.  But Ande, the owner, asked if I would host a KAL via Zoom.  We are working on the Malabrigo Temperance KAL.  It feels so nice to do something familiar and has been a pleasure checking in with old friends and making new friends.

    Stash report Week 13

The past two weeks I have not been productive with yarn or fabric.  I did manage to finish a pair of socks last week.  It was the first time I did toe up two at a time on two circular needles and I liked the process.

Yarn in this week:  0 yards

Yarn out this week:  253 yards

    In YTD:  2899 yards

    Out YTD:  4150

    No change in Fabric!

    April OMG

This month I want to finish my Dockside Cable Scarf.  I love knitting cables and this is one I have to pay close attention too.  I am using Blue Sky Fibers Extra and I love the yarn.  I am hoping I will be 4 for 4 for the year.  I think this may be a stretch since I am also working on the Temperance KAL.  I am off to link up with Elm Street Quilts.

    March OMG Accomplished

Finishing this lap quilt was my goal and I did it.  I don't think I have ever completed my goals for three consecutive  months.  The pattern is Turning Twenty Again.  I had assembled the blocks 10-15 years ago.  I decided to make two lap size quilts for a charity project.

    March Table Topper

I have been joining The Joyful Quilter's table scrap challenge.  And this month I worked on a Santa Snack Mat from Oma's Place.  It is for the Grandies in Virginia.  I have one more to make for the newest little guy.

    Stash Report Week 11

I cannot believe how fast this month is speeding by!!! No change in my yarn numbers this week but I am making steady progress on a cabled scarf and a pair of socks.

Yarn in this week:  0 yards

Yarn out this week:  0 yards

I did manage to complete a baby charity quilt. My sister gifted me this adorable panel and I used the elephant end to end quilting design from Designs by Juju.  I have used several of the Juju's designs for quilting and have been very happy with each of them.

Fabric in this week:  0 yards

Fabric out this week:  3 yards

    Fabric in YTD:  5 yards

    Fabric out YTD:  18.25 yards

I am off to visit my friends at quiltpaintcreate to see what they are up to.
