Stash Report

My stash report is my attempt at learning how to link.  Judy at Patchwork Times has been very patient trying to help me but my link shows up with a red x.  I hoping for success today.  Wish me luck.

Stash Report

I tried last week linking to Judy's site with a stash report.  I want to start fresh in 2012 and see what progress I make.  So for the remainder of 2011 I am going to try and improve my linking skills.

STASH REPORT

Another maiden voyage!!!  I am going to try and link up to Judy L's page with my stash report.  this is just a trial run.

Getting Inspired

I look forward to checking in on the blogs I like follow.  And I love how one blog leads to another!!  There are challenges and motivations everywhere in blogland.  I have always been a "list" person.  Writing it down and then being able to cross it off when done is very satisfying.  I haven't always applied this tactic to my needlework.  But now is the time to set goals, hopefully stop staring new UFO's.  I found the FMQ challenge on SewCals blog and couldn't resist.  I wrote about the Crazy quilting Journal Project--couldn't resist that either!!!  The stash busting report on Judy L's site has grabbed me sine I started reading her blog.  But the very methodical part of me won't let start until January 1.  (I am more type A than I would ever like to admit.)  And when on Judy's site this AM I was reading another person's report when what did I see but another challenge--using notions and gadgets that have been waiting!!  I will post that site as soon as I go back.

So, while "my boys" are enjoying Sunday football, I am going to my sewing haven and inventory what is in progress, prioritizing (ugh not a nice word for stuff I love) what I want to work on.  I think I will identfy categories;  Piecing, Applique, Knitting, Stitchery, etch and then maybe put no more than 5 in each one.

P.S.   All of this organizing, prioritizing,m categorizing could be the fever talking.  I forgot to mention that on Thanksgiving Day I came down with the FLU..Everything from that day until today is a blur!!!.  Hmm I wonder how far I will get with this project today--or is it a dream!!

Crazy Quilting

I have long been in love with crazy quilting.  I haven't really completed anything but hope springs eternal!  The CQJP2012 will begin in January.  In addition, Sharon B of Pin Tangle Pintangle will have a TAST (Take a Stitch Tuesday) project introducing a different stitch every Tues.  What could be better!!!  Do any of you find that take on more than you can handle?  I can't choose just one fiber art to focus on.  I like knitting, stitcheries, applique, quilting etc.,  I want to do it all.

Happ stitching!

FMQ Challenge

Happy Thankgiving. The pumpkin bourbon tart just came out of the oven. the house is beginning to smell like Thanksgiving!!!    I saw Erin's post on her blog, One Piece at a Time, about a FMQ challenge for 2012.  I couldn't sign up fast enough.  Enjoy family friends and good times this week end.

Myra's Mystery

Wher to begin. I know I can be tardy in posting but this time Mother nature had her hand in it. We lost power for 4 days. The northeast has a nor'easter starting last Saturday. There are still many people without power. I was in the middle of working on Myra's mystery last Saturday when our power went out. This afternoon I was able to catch up. I have included a photo of my progress so far.
This is the third time in less than a year that we have lost power for an extended period--more than three days.  Much of the food in our refridgerator had to be thrown away again.

Busy Sunday

I just finished Part 3 of Myra's Mystery Quilt Along.  I have a flock of geese that I tried with Myra's new technique.  It was a little tricky but I did it.  here is a photo of my flock.

I can't wait for the next step.   Hope to be back soon.

Success

I moved two buttons that did not have a code.  It took a few tries but I did it!!!!!  I am off to make my first block for the Fat quarter Star quilt Along.  A girl can never have too many projects to work on.  I wasn't able to add my link to What's in a name on the sweet as cinnamon blog.  Maybe I will try again later.  so much to learn so little time.

Applique and.....

Dawn from Sweet as Cinnamon is asking how we came to our name.  While needleturn applique is my favorite technic or some may say a wee bit of an obsession, I also like to redwork and just about everything from Crabapple.  And knitting.  and sometimes I cook.  And I like tracing our family roots.  There are so many things I like doing.  Oh did I mention machine embroidery!!  And now I am working at blogging.  this is my newest adventure.  My picture taking leaves a lot to be desired but one of my daughters does a wonderful job.  I hope to borrow her talent soon to help with loading images on my site.  I am going back to Dawn's site to read how others "got their names".

Myra's Mystery quilt a Long

Myra at Tactile Pleasures has started a mystery quilt along that I am going to try.  Here is the palette of fabrics I chose.
I was determined to only use fabric in my stash!
My progress so far is 3-12 inch blocks and 32 four patches.
I chose my block patterns from Knockout blocks and sampler Quilts by Judy Martin.
Can't wait to see what is next.

Design Wall monday

Several years ago I participated in one of Jo Morton's Little women series.  I just finished sewing the binding on this little doll quilt.  I think it is called Pick Up Sticks.  It just needs a label that I hope to get to do today.

Sunday, September 4, 2011

I was reading an earlier post from Judy L and liked her goal setting ideas.  I have always been a list writer for daily and weekly goals.  I love crossing things off lists.  But lately my lists don't allow me to see immediate results.  I need instant gratification!!!

I was going to wait until january to start a stash reduction recording.  After trying to organize my sewing room I realize I must start NOW!!!  So my confession for this week is:

Fabric In:  3.5 yards
Fabric Out:  0
YTD: 0

I do mostly applique, so it is hard to calculate what I use in a week.

I am trying to use my stash for any new projects.  But I am joining my sister in 2 weeks to attend a quilt show in the Phila. area.  I can be strong but I think that is asking to much!

I hope to post something on design wall Monday tomorrow!

Sad ending, new beginning

The past month has been a whirlwind.  We sold our condo in Maine and I am sad.  School started just after the movers brought our things back to MA.  What was a two nurse office is now a one nurse office and I sorely miss my friend with whom I worked.

As much as I will miss the beach, it is time to refocus and be happy with the many joys and blessings that are mine.

I need blog decorating help and one of my daughters has been drafted.  My photos leave alot to be desired but I will not let that stop me!

I want to share my accomplishments and participate with other bloggers.  I am inspired by the work I see others accomplishing.

I am itching to participate in the Stash reduction that Judy L features.  But the compulsive person that I am twitches at jumping in now.  I will be documenting that starting Jan 1 2012.

Design wall Monday

Better late than never.  We traveled to Scranton to visit family and do some family research.  It was nice seeing family but I am happy to be back in Maine and enjoying the ocean.  I only have a few weeks left until school begins.  I have posted a picture of bluework shells that was finished Saturday.  I am also including two completed blocks from hocuspocusville.  I was able to do embroidery and knitting while in the car.

Learn something new

I finally learned how to add pages and edit a page's content.  I admire the blogs I follow that I wanted to be a part of that world.  My next step is to learn how to upload photos.  I love seeing and hearing what every one is working on.  I really do get inspired.

Epiphany

My goal this summer was to FINISH projects that have been tucked away in my sewing room.  like most quilters and knitters I have been accumulating kits, BOM, fabrics, yarn etc.  I finished a table topper and was attempting to sandwich the quilt, but the humidity will not allow the tape to stick to anything!  So the next best thing, i was going to start piecing a kit I purchased more years ago than i can remember.  I didn't like all of the fabric included.  Not all of  the fabrics were cotton-some were brocade types, upholstery weight and plush.  So I added some from my stash.  I thought I was being very good.  As I was planning the cutting process, that nagging little voice said--"Do you even like this fabric?"  As I said no to my inner self, I tried pushing away the negative thoughts and wanted to persevere and do it.  And then the clouds parted--I DON'T HAVE TO MAKE THIS QUILT.  I will recycle the fabric into my stash, give away what I don't like and add the pattern back into my pile.  Maybe I will make this quilt another day, maybe not.  But I am not going to spend time on a project I just don't like.  This has been very freeing.

Maiden Voyage

I discovered the world of blogging a few months ago.  I suppose it takes me awhile to be current with technology.  I have visited so many quilting and applique blogs and have enjoyed them--one blog leads to another!!!

I am a needle turn applique enthusiast (aka--obsessed) but I also like patchwork, stitchery, crazy quilting, knitting and cooking.

I am looking forward to meeting new friends and sharing ideas.

Hopefully, the look of my blog will change as I learn how to add buttons and other "sparkly" things.
